Training Camp 2010: The Spartan Experience
By Spartan Staff • Feb 1st, 2010 • Category: HEADLINE NEWSWith the offseason coming to an end it’s almost time to get back to the grind. With the Spartan new and returning player meetings pulling in a fresh load of young talent the Spartan roster has mushroomed to 70 players and will will be looking to add more before the start of camp in two weeks. The staff of the Spartans have been working feverishly getting ready for the start of camp on Feb 13th. With the opening of the Fordham Hill facility for Saturday camp the 2010 preseason should be packed with action and some great storylines.
Coach Patterson sat down with us to discuss what the Spartan camp plans are and how this years camp is geared to correct the issues that prevented them from defending the Empire Conference crown. “To a certain extent we have been victims of our own situation. Playing and practicing on a $1.7 milliion facility has its benefits but is also has handicapped us to some extent. We struggle with playing in less than optimum conditions which hurt us in bad weather, road games, and has allowed us to not be as tough as we could be. The benefit to the Fordham facility is that it is a grass and dirt surface that we have complete control over so Spartan players can look forward to a very tough camp. We are locking the gates and getting five solid hours of old school camp to find the best players and best people to represent the Spartan uniform. ”
Some of the things that the both returning and new players will be introduced to is a hard knocks style two-a-days. Players arrive between 9 and 9:30 on Saturdays and will be getting ready to get started at 10 am sharp. “Practice will have a pace that mirrors the college level” said Coach Patterson ” The staff here has alot of great things that players will be introduced to. They should be ready to work as we are truly getting back to basics and live by our motto of hard work pays.”
Stay tuned as we will give you both written and video coverage of training camp from Fordham Hill facility which will be soon nicknamed “Patterson’s Torture Chamber”… This should be fun
